Being high over Cairo Tower is pleasant. It offers a unique perspective of this magnificent city, with its equally cutting-edge and historic neighbourhoods.

The Gezira neighbourhood is where this tower is located. The tower is located on an island in the Nile River, which is called Gezira in Arabic and Island in English. Thus, that is how the district got its name. Cairo appears to be split in half by the Nile River, which flows peacefully north to the Mediterranean. The local people in Cairo usually call it “Nasser’s Pineapple.” It is also known as Borg al-Qahira, and is most beautiful at dusk when millions of sparkling lights come to life. At 187 meter, it is the fourth-highest tower in the world. It is around 45 meters taller than the Great Pyramid at Giza. The tower’s frame is purposefully partially open outwards, giving it the appearance of a pharaonic lotus plant. The purpose of building this lotus was to turn it become a recognized representation of ancient Egypt.

The skyscraper has 16 floors, but it appears to have more than that because of how breathtaking the view is. The tower’s granite foundation is the cause of the latter. The Pharaohs erected their temples and other buildings out of the same material. On a clear day, one can see Cairo’s easternmost reaches, where the dark grey structures about the Muqattam Hills’ sheer cliff face. Despite being a popular tourist destination and one of Cairo’s most notable monuments, the Cairo Tower was only built for political purposes.

Naoum Shebib, a talented Egyptian architect, was the designer and the construction took approximately seven years to complete.

The tower is described as a mocking symbol of Egypt’s resistance, revolutions, and pride that can be seen from the US Embassy just over the Nile. It was created by Egyptian architect Naoum Shebib between 1956 and 1961 and was influenced by ancient Egyptian architecture. The rotating restaurants that are located at a high point of the tower, where a breathtaking view of Cairo can be seen, are another facility that appears to draw travellers. It can take an hour or more to complete the rotation. That allows you to see Egypt from that perspective.
