Don´t miss the opportunity to see the impressive Temples of Abu Simple with an expert Egyptologist.
Abu Simbel showcases some of the most impressive and unique temples in Egypt. The temples are of great historical importance and provide great insight into ancient civilization.
When the High Dam was built to regulate the waters of the Nile, a subsequent rise in water levels threatened to submerge Abu Simbel. In the early 1960s, UNESCO managed the mammoth relocation project to move the temples to a hill high above the new water level.
If you´re lucky and visit on February 22 or October 22 (speculated to be the anniversaries of Ramses’ coronation and birth) you´ll get to witness the first rays of the rising sun penetrate the temple, move along the hypostyle hall, and into the sanctuary, where they illuminate the figures and the face of Ramses’ statue.
