The Lighthouse of Qaitbey, known as the Pharos of Alexandria, is a historic lighthouse located in Alexandria, Egypt. It was built in the 3rd century BCE. The lighthouse stood over 300 feet tall and guided ships into the harbor of Alexandria for nearly 1,500 years. It was destroyed by several earthquakes and other natural disasters, but much of its stone was used in the construction of the Fort Qaitbey, which was built on the same site in the 15th century. Today, the Fort Qaitbey serves as a museum and a popular tourist attraction in Alexandria.
