The Evolution of Pyramid Building

After breakfast, meet your Egyptologist and set off to explore the ancient roots of pyramid construction. Begin at Saqqara, home to the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the world’s first stone structure, representing the earliest evolution of pyramid design. Discover the Serapeum, where 26 granite sarcophagi of sacred bulls lie in massive underground chambers.

Next, visit Memphis, the first capital of ancient Egypt, an open-air museum featuring statues, sphinxes, and artifacts from the Early Dynastic and Old Kingdom periods.

After lunch, continue to Dahshur, where the ancient Egyptians perfected the art of pyramid building. Explore the Bent Pyramid, an early architectural experiment, and the Red Pyramid, the first true pyramid in history — a direct precursor to the Giza Pyramids.

Return to your hotel and enjoy a free evening in Cairo. For an optional experience, stroll through Downtown Cairo, often called “Paris on the Nile,” reflecting the elegance of Khedive Ismail’s era.

Aswan City Tour

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Cairo Airport for your flight to Aswan. Upon arrival, your local Egyptologist will meet you for a tour of this tranquil southern city.

Begin at the High Dam, a modern engineering marvel providing life-giving water to Egypt, overlooking the vast Lake Nasser. Then, visit the Unfinished Obelisk, an ancient granite monument revealing how the Pharaohs crafted and transported these towering wonders.

After lunch, take a short boat ride to Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis and relocated to Agilkia Island. Sail the same waters that once carried sacred processions of Osiris. The temple’s mix of Pharaonic, Greek, and Roman influences reflects the layers of Egyptian civilization.

Check in aboard your luxury Nile Cruise. Enjoy lunch on the sundeck, relax by the pool, or take an optional felucca sail to Kitchener’s Island and the Aga Khan Mausoleum. In the evening, delight in a Nubian Show or Galabia Party on board before dinner and overnight stay in Aswan.

Kom Ombo Visit

Enjoy breakfast while sailing toward Kom Ombo. At a curve in the Nile, visit the Temple of Sobek and Horus, uniquely dedicated to two gods. Inside, see ancient surgical instruments and carvings depicting medical practices — proof of Egypt’s early advancements in science.

Return to your cruise for lunch and continue sailing to Edfu, the city of the falcon god Horus. Dinner and overnight stay on board.

Edfu Temple Visit

After breakfast, take a horse-drawn carriage to Edfu Temple, one of Egypt’s best-preserved temples and second in size only to Karnak. Explore its magnificent reliefs, which reveal details of ancient rituals and daily life.

Return to your cruise for lunch and enjoy sailing through Esna Lock, a fascinating engineering experience. Arrive in Luxor, the world’s largest open-air museum. Spend a free evening exploring Luxor’s markets and bazaars before dinner and overnight stay aboard your cruise.

Luxor Day Tour

After breakfast, check out from your Nile Cruise and begin exploring the wonders of Luxor with your Egyptologist.

Start at the West Bank, home of the afterlife for ancient Egyptians. Visit the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens, where pharaohs and royals were buried with treasures for eternity. Continue to the grand Temple of Hatshepsut, majestically carved into the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari, and admire the Colossi of Memnon, two towering statues that have guarded Thebes since 1350 BC.

After lunch, cross to the East Bank to visit the magnificent Luxor Temple, a masterpiece of Amenhotep III and Ramses II, then stroll along the Avenue of Sphinxes leading to Karnak Temple, the largest religious complex ever built.

Transfer to Luxor Airport for your return flight to Cairo. Upon arrival, your coordinator will meet you and escort you to your hotel for a restful final night in Egypt.
